First (2168m) to Grosse Scheidegg (1961m) optional route walk down to Grindelwald (1034m)

The walk starts by taking the gondola from Grindelwald to First, on reaching the top you leave the gondola via the right door and walk out taking the middle path straight ahead ignoring the other paths as you proceed through the gate the path bears left and after a short while it bears back to the right, it is an easy route to follow on well maintained paths.

During the whole of the first section to your right you have the views of the Wetterhorn (3701m) Schreckhorn (4078m), the Unterer Grindelwaldgletscher and the Eiger (3970m) whilst to your left you have the peak of the Schwarzhorn (2928m).

On leaving First you follow the path that leads to the Schwarzhorn, as the path splits for the first time you keep going towards the Schwarzhorn ignoring the path going right, on the second fork you take the right fork taking you above the drop of the Schilt this path takes you into Grosse Scheidegg above Oberläger.

Once in Grosse Scheidegg you can either take the bus back to Grindelwald or walk back via Unter Lauchbuhl and Bort (1570m), here you can either take the cable car back down to Grindelwald or follow the cable car route back, this is a nice added on extra offering easy walking views of the Grindelwald valley, surrounding peaks and the cable car station at Pfingstegg.
